Booked your first Nanobrows appointment, or thinking about it? Knowing what happens makes the day easier. Here's how it usually goes at Synergy Beauty in Falls Church, VA.

Before your appointment

Tell your artist about medications, allergies, skin conditions, pregnancy, previous brow tattoos and any past reactions. Bring available photos or records of earlier permanent makeup, plus examples of the look you like. Do not stop prescribed medication for an appointment without the prescriber’s advice. Contact the studio if the treatment area is irritated or has an active skin problem.

Step 1: Talking about your goals

You’ll discuss your preferred look, usual brow makeup and skin. Ask how machine hair strokes compare with powder or combination brows for your goals, and review healed examples. The recommendation should explain the expected look and limitations.

Step 2: Mapping the shape

Your artist measures and draws the brow shape directly on your face, based on your bone structure and features. You look in the mirror, give feedback and nothing starts until you approve the shape.

Step 3: Numbing and the procedure

Numbing may help with comfort, but sensitivity varies. Your artist uses a machine to create fine hair strokes following the agreed design. Discuss previous anesthetic reactions and ask what to expect rather than assuming the procedure will be painless.

Step 4: Aftercare

Before you leave, you’ll receive written care instructions. Brows can look darker or sharper initially and may flake. Follow the specific cleaning and moisturizing protocol, avoid picking or soaking, and ask when to resume makeup, exercise and swimming. Healing and pigment retention vary.

Step 5: Your perfecting session

Once the skin has healed, your artist assesses retained color and stroke definition and discusses whether refinement is appropriate. The perfecting appointment is planned around healing, not a guarantee that every area will retain pigment identically.

What should I avoid doing before the appointment?

Do not add a high-strength numbing cream on your own. The FDA has warned about certain topical pain-relief products marketed for cosmetic procedures because misuse or excessive absorption can cause serious harm. Follow professional instructions and disclose what you have already applied.

Who should I contact if healing worries me?

Ask the studio about normal care questions. Spreading redness, increasing pain, pus or fever need prompt medical assessment as well as notice to the artist. The AAD’s tattoo reaction guide explains warning signs. For the broader sequence, see Permanent Makeup Healing.

What it costs

Nanobrows at Synergy Beauty start at $650. The perfecting session is $250 and isn't included in the first-session price. See all prices on the permanent makeup page, and visit the Nanobrows page for more about the technique.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Nanobrows appointment take?

Plan for a few hours. Mapping and approving the shape takes time, and it's worth not rushing.

Does it hurt?

Numbing may reduce discomfort, but people experience different sensations. Tell your artist about previous reactions and do not self-apply an online numbing product without appropriate guidance.

Can I go back to work the next day?

Some clients return to routine work soon afterward, but comfort and appearance vary. Discuss your work conditions, travel and important events before booking so you can plan for visible early healing.

When is the perfecting session?

After your brows have fully healed from the first session. Your artist will tell you when to book it.
